But with the matter now seemingly at an end, Group 10 clubs voted against a switch on Wednesday night, there is praise for the Fishies.
CRL Regional Manager Western, Peter Clarke, attended the Group 10 meeting at Bathurst and was witness to the clubs voting 6-3 against Dubbo CYMS joining their competition.
And while both the Group 11 and Group 10 competitions look set to remain as per usual next season, the matter has sparked much debate in relation to competition boundaries.
“You’ve got to applaud the effort put in,” Clarke said in relation to CYMS.
“But the Group 10 clubs just felt it was too big of a rush leading into the 2017 season.”
Despite the clubs voting against CYMS, Clarke revealed there was not total objection and there was a lot of support for the upcoming review into the structure of the competitions in the Western Rams region.
That review will be done on February 12 at Wellington, with CRL chief executive Terry Quinn to attend as plans are made to enhance rugby league in the local area.
Clarke said CYMS could theoretically fight the decision and take it to the CRL again, but he added “I doubt there would be any chance” of that board going against the Group 11, Group 10 and Western Rams boards.
