“This is our chance to recognise those people who have made great contributions to our community over the past 12 months,” Mayor Kennedy said.
“And what a better way to celebrate our great country and welcome new Australians than with a barbecue breakfast.”
Along with the presentation of the 2017 Australia Day awards for Citizen of the Year and other local honours, the day will include a citizenship ceremony, a speech by Australia Day Ambassador Gordon Bray AM, and free activities for the whole family.
“The Mid-Western Region is thriving thanks to our dynamic community, and Australia Day is one of many community celebrations throughout the year that remind us how lucky we are to live in such a great place,” Mayor Kennedy said.
“I encourage residents to join in the fun, take advantage of the free activities on offer, and celebrate what’s great about life here.”
The Rotary Club of Rylstone-Kandos will be serving up bacon and egg rolls from 8am, local musician Nick Wall and Mudgee Day View Singers will entertain crowds through the morning with a jumping castle and face painting for children.
Celebrations begin at 8am and finish at midday. The Official Ceremony begins at 10am.
Mid-Western Regional Council Mayor Des Kennedy said he is excited to welcome Mr Bray to the region.
A sports commentator, journalist, author and business ambassador, Mr Bray began his broadcasting career with ABC Sport in Sydney in 1969.
