The carnival was set to begin with a home match for the local side at Victoria Park on Friday, however the game was abandoned due to rain.
Just two overs – bowled by Mudgee – were played before the stumps were pulled up and the visiting side travelled back to Orange immediately, to prepare for Saturday’s scheduled clash against the Blue Mountains at Wade Park.
A wash out was also the fete for the Bathurst and Blue Mountains game on Friday.
Mudgee were at home again for Saturday’s match – this time under blue skies and sunshine – for a replay of last year’s final against Bathurst.
The defending champs rolled the hosts by nine wickets – Cody Lawson [pictured] getting the only scalp – chasing down their total of 81 in fifteen overs.
Their weekend ending on Sunday with a loss to Blue Mountains, who played their home game in Bathurst.
Blue Mountains finished the weekend on top being undefeated and with the best net run rate.
Defending champs Bathurst, despite also finishing the weekend undefeated in their matches against Mudgee and Orange, missed out on back-to-back titles.
Unfortunately for Bathurst their net run rate of +2.74 was not enough to catch Blue Mountains on +3.12.
Orange finished the weekend without a victory, their best opportunity came after they worked its way to a good position against Bathurst on Sunday, but let it slip.
Thanks to Blue Mountains’ two victories over the weekend Bathurst was left with a simple plan: Bowl Orange out for as little as possible to try and claim the title on net run rate.
Despite their dominant display against Orange, Bathurst were still pipped for the title by Blue Mountains on net run rate.
The two leading teams never actually meeting during the carnival.
