Rebekah Piscioneri’s vehicle was damaged on Sunday (pictured).
“The damage indicates that it’s been reversed into, either at relatively high speed or by a heavy vehicle, because it’s quite high,” she said.
“And there’s no paint exchanged, so it could be flat-trayed like a truck of some description.”
After taking to Facebook – with the hope of finding anyone who may have witnessed the incident – she soon found she wasn’t the only victim in the location.
“The feedback I was that there were people who had similar incidents, as well as businesses with property damage,” she said.
“And doing the rounds of the panel beaters they said there seems to be a minimum of about three cars a week, from main shopping centre carparks in the CBD.”
She said the car was parked just out of range of two store’s CCTV cameras, whose focus is their respective entryways.
Mrs Piscioneri was made aware of a petition calling for the installation of CCTV cameras for the entire location, which has since garnered over 250 signatures.
And added that this would be a deterrence effect and provide a clear record of any incident.
“I think it would be a deterrent for things such as property damage and other criminal misdemeanors,” she said.
“But as far as leaving the scene of an accident – people in my position – for insurance purposes it would just be a case of going and collecting the footage so I don’t have to pay the excess.
“And I would imagine it would make it better for police if they have one place to go to collect footage.”
The petition can be found at www.change.org/p/coles-and-woolworths-car-park-cameras-in-mudgee.
It reads, “numerous dent and run incidents happen each month, put a few hi res cameras in place AND put signs up advising they are active”.
