A man charged with multiple alleged historical child sex offences was refused bail in Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday.

The alleged offences occurred in the Penrith area over a period of time 20 to 30 years ago.
Following inquiries, the man was arrested in Mudgee on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, and charged with 19 offences, including aggravated sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault – victim under the age of 16 years of age.
In applying for bail his legal-aid solicitor, Ms Miles, told the court that her client has had an intellectual disability since he was young and that he has no previous offences and never been before a court.
Magistrate Terry Lucas refused bail.
He said, “the matter has come to light after an investigation in recent years and it appears to be a strong case”.
The defendant was adjourned until Friday, April 7, 2017, in Penrith Local Court, where he will appear via Audio Visual Link.
