Mudgee’s Masonic fraternity and guests once again cerebrated the birth of Robert Burns when it held the annual Burns Supper Night at the Lodge Hall in Church Street.

The evening commenced with local piper, Ewen McPherson, and the ceremonial team assembled in an adjoining room and, with music from the Bag Pipes, entered the dining room with the Haggis held high, before arriving at the ceremonial table.
The proceedings commenced with Wor Bro Guy Kemp reciting the traditional Grace before Graham Podmore paid homage to Robbie Burns on his two hundred and fifty eighth birthday and, with the broadest Scottish accent he could muster, recited “The address to the Haggis”, which was a very impressive ceremony, after which all who had taken part, shared in a “Wee Dram".
After the meal, Ewen entertained the assembly with a selection of scottish tunes on the Bag Pipes, which was greatly appreciated
Perhaps more than any other food, the haggis, the Scottish national dish, has an exceptionally bad reputation. Nowadays it consists of a mixture of sheep’s innards, oatmeal and spices, all wrapped up in a sheep stomach. Haggis is a thoroughly Scottish tradition, largely due to Robert Burns.
