The idea of the new competition is to begin to create a stepping stone for girls who want to eventually move onto the senior League Tag competition, while also giving girls an opportunity to get out in the fresh air and play footy with friends.
James Hughes, Mudgee Junior Rugby League representative, thinks it’s crucial to give young girls a route to the top.
“Hopefully this will help create a pathway for girls who want to play league tag in the senior division for the Dragons,” he said.
“It's just a good thing for them to get out and about to keep fit.”
While still in the early stages of planning, the proposed format is five carnivals spread around different venues such as Orange, Bathurst, Cowra and hopefully Mudgee.
The dates of these carnivals are reported to be Sunday April 2, Sunday May 14, Sunday June 25, Sunday July 16 and Sunday August 6.
As the season gets closer, Mudgee Junior Rugby League are calling for interested players who can play in the Under 12s, Under 14s and Under 16s to make contact with the club by messaging MJRL on Facebook or emailing mudgeejrl@gmail.com.
