The squad have purchased a new set of “parrot beak” cutters and a set of spreaders and crushers.
These are greatly improved versions of the old “jaws of life” and are equipped with an advanced battery which remove the need for hydraulic hoses and generators.
This gives the operator more mobility and access to areas that had had previously caused rescue difficulties.
And also cuts down on the maintenance required on the old cutters.
The combined assistance of Club Mudgee, Wilpinjong Coal, Kepco Bylong, and Family First Mudgee, complemented by a Commonwealth Community Grant has enabled the volunteers to embark on an essential equipment upgrade of the capital and expensive rescue equipment.
When vehicle rescue equipment is replaced it needs to be the most efficient available and abreast of modern updates, which is expensive and constant fundraising.
The squad depends on the generosity of the community to maintain their efficient rescue capability.
To complete their equipment upgrade they are now looking to purchase a third essential item, a rescue combination tool, which when purchased will see the unit ready for anything well into the foreseeable future.
Squad captain Brian Wells thanked their supporters and donors and said how much they rely on the public support for the capital “which enables us to well serve our community”.
