Steven William John Jones of Cameron Street, Mudgee, was charged with ‘Drive vehicle, illicit drug present in blood etc’ and ‘Licence expired less than two years before’, on August 16, 2016.
He was stopped in Spring Flat Road, Mudgee, and tested positive for methamphetamine and cannabis in his system.
A month later Jones was charged with ‘Not give way to vehicle (give way sign/line)’, ‘Drive under influence of alcohol’, and another count of ‘Licence expired less than two years before’.
In the early hours of September 17, 2016, police saw him through the intersection of Mortimer and Cox streets without giving way as required and nearly crashing into another vehicle.
They caught up with him in his driveway where he claimed he couldn’t be charged because he was at home and had exited the vehicle.
When asked about alcohol Jones told officers “yeah I had a few at the Woolpack, but you’ve got nothing on me”.
Magistrate Terry Lucas heard that he’d made attempts to turn his life around from his previous criminal history and noted Jones’ age in saying, “it is difficult that people get their maturity and brains later in life”.
