This came about after community concerns over a large population seen in the area – estimated to be about 10,000 – in the summer of 2015/16, which dropped to closer to 2,000 last season.
These were the Little Red and Grey Headed species, the latter is listed as vulnerable.
Feedback was welcomed at an information evening on Wednesday.
Environmental Services’ Cassie Liney said that the community concerns related to noise and smell and misconceptions about the spread of disease.
“While they might be pleasant to have in your backyard they are threatened, so we have to manage that,” she said.
“Not all animals carry diseases and people are only infected if they’re scratched or bitten, which usually occurs if they try to free a flying-fox which has been caught in something like a fence.”
