The first of these steps has been to rent out 85 Market Street, the empty shopfront that once housed the jewellers, to have an art exhibition for those that pass-by.
Art work and creative writing from young people in the region will be on display at the Market Street shopfront.
This comes as the first step in a series of plans from the junior councillors which include a rotary cinema run aimed at the town’s youth, a talent show titled Youth Week Idol, a fast-paced match of dodgeball and a Battle of the Brains trivia night.
Brody Mundy, the youth deputy mayor, is excited for the Youth Week to kick off.
“It’s really important for the whole region, it gives youth a whole week to just focus on themselves, and it gives youth council a chance to show off what we do,” he said.
“I personally am looking forward to the dodgeball match in Rylstone because I am from Rylstone so that makes it easy.”
There will be shuttles from Kandos and Rylstone that will take those interested to the youth events, including to the trivia night at the school.
“The whole focus of the week is that kids and youth need to get off screens and start to experience life, which is tied into our ‘Look Up’ drive,” Brody said.
“A lot of the focus is on things that people wouldn’t normally do, and we tried to get it away from sport a bit because everyone can already access that.”
Tim Stratton, the Business Development and Commercial Manager for First National Mudgee, was pleased to have a chance to support youth in the region by allowing them access to the shopfront.
“We are delighted to have been offered the opportunity to partner with council and the youth council organisation for what is sure to be an exciting week for the region,” he said.
"Having this high traffic commercial space available provides exposure that the movement and event deserves.”
Youth Week 2017 begins next Friday, March 31, and will conclude Sunday, April 9.
