The selection comes after Meers had a strong showing at the Bathurst qualifiers just a few weeks ago, and now travels as part of the five-member team to compete in the state level competition.
Meers has attended the NSW PSSA Championships before, having qualified as the fifth seed in 2016, but now has improved his standings to third in the squad.
The rise in level will mean that Meers will more than likely play every singles match that the team is called upon to compete in, and his head coach Nathan Wilkins believes the carnival will be a good litmus test for his talents.
“He’s already done really well to get selected for the team heading to Newcastle,” Wilkins said.
“Last year he kind of just snuck in to the team so I challenged him to go one better this year, and he stepped up two ranks for the team.
“Newcastle gives him a chance to learn and develop – at this age it’s really more about getting the practice in and learning then winning anything major.”
The PSSA Championships begin in the week of May 8, set to coincide with Week 3 of the second term of the school year.
