This coming long weekend is one of the busiest on the region’s roads, so police will be out in force as part of Operation Tortoise.
Acting Sergeant Garry McGovern said the state-wide operation kicks off on Thursday, April 13 and aims to bring down the state’s road toll.
“The aim is to heighten the public awareness to the main five factors of road crashes during the Easter long weekend period.
“Speed, drink/drug driving, fatigue, seat-belts and mobile phones and other distractions, including TVs and GPS systems.
“Year to date, there have been 32 fatal crashes recorded on NSW roads, which has resulted in 36 deaths.
“We just want to make sure that everyone arrives at their destination safely,” he said.
“The last thing we want is for Easter to be remembered as a time that a loved one was lost.
“There’s no winners in fatal crashes.”
