Cara Pauline Scicluna, aged 36, of Church Street, Mudgee, was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment with a non-parole period of eight months and disqualified for a further two years, for the charges ‘Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period’ and ‘Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous’.
Scicluna was disqualified from driving from 2013 until 2032, and was under the supervision of Probation and Parole Services until February 23.
At about 9.15am on the morning of Thursday, February 9, 2017, police saw her driving in Meares Street, Mudgee, turning south onto Church Street.
The police vehicle was behind Scicluna’s at the intersection and they confirmed she was behind the wheel when she turned around and looked at the officers.
When they attempted to stop her she took off - mounting the roundabout at the intersection with Madeira Road, travelling through the Cudgegong Valley Public School zone at speed.
And then overtook another vehicle at the pedestrian crossing at the rear entrance of the school.
The vehicle was found later in Spring Road and Scicluna and her passenger were tracked down.
In court Scicluna said “I messed up” and that she sped up out of panic because the police saw her driving.
“My friend [who was a passenger] said ‘you’re going to jail’, but now I’ll go to jail anyway,” she said.
Magistrate Terry Lucas told the defendant, “you got eight months last time, you are going to get more now”.
