During the two World Wars, 96 nurses died on active service.
Since Australian women first became involved in war as nurses in 1898, during the Boer War, tens of thousands of women have served in varying roles including more recently, frontline services as soldiers, as the traditional gender-based roles have merged.
So this year ADA Cottage – alongside representatives of the Kandos RSL Sub-Branch and - commemorated their service at the organisation’s special service on Thursday, April 20.
This event allows their frail residents to participate in this important day, as many cannot get to a local service.
With members of the community invited to join them in remembrance of Australians who died serving their country.
