Active Participation Program customers Greg Dean, Steven Heath, Oscar Lovick and Chloe Pike – called the LiveBetter legends - have been chosen to represent the Country league tag side, and will play in pre-match games at Glen Willow Regional Sports Stadium in Mudgee.

NRL Western NSW Game Development Officers Wayne Hill and former professional player Ronny Gibbs are passionate and proactive advocates for the Country Rugby League and National Rugby League’s mission to ensure rugby league is an all-inclusive game.

They worked together to have Disability Rugby League featured in the contest. League tag and tackle pre-matches were added to the program a few years ago to ensure the event continues to hold a special place in peoples’ hearts.

“The Country versus City match is always a great opportunity for rugby league fans who live in the country to see some the game’s greatest players playing live and up close,” Mr Hill said.

“It’s also important to inspire community activities to be attached to the game, like the league tag and tackle games.”

The LiveBetter Legends were chosen for the side following terrific performances during trials in Dubbo held in early March, where they competed for their places against people from other regional areas such as Dubbo and Trangie.

They will play in matches on Sunday on the stadium outer fields from 11am before playing on the main field during half time in the curtain raiser from 2:30pm.

Mr Hill said the LiveBetter Legends are great players and their talent will be a great addition to this weekend’s showcase.

“It’s going to be an absolutely wonderful weekend of football. I hope everyone enjoys it and celebrates the rich history of this match and what Country versus City has meant for the game,” he said.
