Over 90 technicians, maintenance and linesmen, telephonists, postal staff and cleaners from the two companies gathered at Parklands Resort on Thursday, May 11.
Ken Ryan and Hazel Tree organised the event saying it was wonderful to get everyone together.
“We’ve found some people that go back to 1941,” Mr Ryan said.
“Unfortunately not everyone could make it, but we’ve collected information and stories from those that worked here in the 1940s and 1950s to share with the crowd.”
Mr Ryan worked as a instilation technician in 1963-1964 and Mrs Tree was a telephonist in 1962.
The first telegraph line to Mudgee opened in 1861.
“We’ve got people coming from all over Australia including Queensland and Tasmania,” Mrs Tree said.
Former Mudgee Telstra worker Ross Parsons, traveled to the event from Nowra, with his collection of memorabilia.
“I found the old telephone at a garage sale for only $5, I couldn’t believe it.”
