821 performers from Gulgong Public School, St Matthews, Mudgee Public School and Kandos Public School gathered at the Gulgong Memorial Hall.
This was the first time that the Kandos Public School attended the Prince of Wales Eisteddfod.
Major prize winners included:
- Best Dramatic Sketch: Kandos Public School
- Best Choral Kindergarten Verse Speaking: St Matthews
- Best Choral Infants Verse Speaking: St Matthews
- Best Choral Junior Verse Speaking: St Matthews
- Best Choral Senior Verse Speaking: Mudgee Public School
The entertainment continued at the Opera House over the weekend with solo and duo performers from a number of schools entering into the Eisteddfod.
Those entrants included Encore Speech and Drama Studio Bathurst, Mudgee Stepping Out, Kandos Public School and Rylstone Public School along with many first-time performers.
With entries at a record high, there were 346 performances over the two days.
Local award winners included:
- Jasmine Russell – Most Promising 15 Years and Over Art of Speech Performer
- Tara Sandry – 15 Years and Over Art of Speech Encouragement Award
- Jessica Nipperess – Encouragement Award for Performer who resides in the Mid-Western Region
- Sarah Gatley – Drama Daze Best Senior Monologue
The Eisteddfod continues Wednesday at the Gulgong Prince of Wales Opera House with the music section, which runs through to Friday with the Music Schools day at the Memorial Hall.
The Eisteddfod month concludes Friday, May 26 with the Gala Concert 7pm at the Gulgong Prince of Wales Opera House followed by the Roger Woodward Playoff.
