The Unicorns put in a much improved display on their home turf after being thumped by the Gilgandra Panthers the previous week, but they could not go the distance with the Terriers and they went down by 16 points with the final scoreboard reading 34-18 in favour of the visitors.
Playing at five-eighth, Gulgong’s Brad James proved the difference between the two sides.
The Western Rams representative was a standout and notched up 22 points in the game via three tries and five goals.
However it wasn’t all bad news for the Unicorns club as its Youth League side and league tag teams secured impressive wins over both of the Terriers’ teams.
At Trangie, the Magpies were outgunned by the Coonamble Bears who took the match 56-18 to remain alongside Gulgong in second position, with both teams being four competition points behind the undefeated Gilgandra Panthers.
The Panthers maintained their momentum in the competition when they registered a massive 70-10 win over a gallant, but outplayed, Coolah Kangaroos outfit at Coolah.
In what may be regarded as an upset by many in the league, the Warren Bulldogs made the long road trip to Baradine a very successful one when they downed the Magpies in their league tag clash taking the game 16-0 to keep in touch with the top four teams.
