The Gulgong Terriers marked the commencement of the second half of the 2017 Christie and Hood Castlereagh League season with a narrow win over Baradine.
The side came away from the Magpies’ home turf with a 20 to 18 victory, thanks to a double by Steve Hardy and tries also to Brad James and Cameron Milburn.
It was the second game in a row that Baradine has taken it to one of the competition’s top sides, having given defending premiers Gilgandra a fright in the last match of the first half of the season.
Gulgong also scored a win over Baradine in the Youth League, triumphing 24 to 4 with tries to Milton Sheather, Jonathon Smith, Aiden Everingham, and William Hawkins, while Sam Gorrie was perfect with the boot kicking four goals from four.
This weekend the Terriers will take on Castlereagh League’s other Magpies when they host Trangie at Billy Dunn Oval.
The home side will no doubt be wary of Trangie as the last time the two teams met the Magpies scored an upset win.
They will not be taking the visitors lightly, nor they should with Trangie putting in a good showing against Gilgandra last Saturday before succumbing in the second half.
In Friday night’s League Tag match at Dunedoo the Swannettes suffered their first loss of the 2017 season when they went down to Warren 20 to 12 in a high class affair.
The win by the Warren secures them fourth rung on a congested league tag competition table and although the Swannettes remain on top of the ladder they have both Coonamble and Gilgandra coming after them, those teams recorded sizeable wins over Coonabarabran and Trangie respectively last weekend.
