It’s been reported Mortimer, now 28 and at his fourth NRL club after stints with Parramatta, the Sydney Roosters and Gold Coast, will link with the Leigh Centurions on a two-year-deal.
The move would be made mid-season.
Mortimer, after being plagued by a knee injury in the opening half of the NRL season, made his debut for Cronulla in Saturday’s win over the Wests Tigers.
He was superb, setting up Jayson Bukuya’s 79th-minute match-winner with a deft grubber, which had coach Shane Flanagan singing his praises.
“I thought his experience and the way he brought players onto the ball out of dummy-half in that 30-minute stint was outstanding,” Cronulla’s mentor said after the game.
