The Mudgee Wombats and Bathurst Bulldogs had both submitted proposals to Central West Rugby Union’s board calling for two five-team tiers to be formed for the remainder of the season, geared toward alleviating the gulf between the top and bottom sides.

Reportedly a number of other Blowes Clothing Cup clubs had also expressed their support of the proposal or, at the very least, a discussion surrounding a change.

Central West’s board did discuss that correspondence on Monday night at its regular monthly board meeting – which was not, as originally reported, an extraordinary general meeting – however it was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that no decision was made, and no motion was made nor passed.

The board had never intended to do so at said meeting, nor considered the idea outside discussing those proposals that had been put forward.

Central West holds it annual mid-year meeting with clubs on Wednesday, June 28 in Molong, where the discussion is set to resume however by then the second half of the season will have commenced.

The two-tier discussion isn’t a new one in the region. Bulldogs has, as a club, floated the idea on more than one occasion in the past.

The season continues as per the schedule, with the Mudgee Wombats beginning the second half of the season against Parkes at home where they will look to turn around their first-half fortunes.

They then travel away to face Bathurst on July 1.
