The whole team are fired up for the opportunity to take a deep run in the finals, and know that the home-field advantage could be key against the offensive-minded Blayney Bears on Saturday.
“We’re glad that we’re here in Mudgee for the match,” Jono George, Under 18 head coach, said of the fixture.
"The Bears are really great in attack so it’s going to be a close game, but being in front of fans always helps.
“We are quite confident going into the game, we’ve had a good season and we’ve got the momentum behind us now.”
There is already a number of key figures that the coaches will be eyeing to make an impact in the elimination battle, including captain and five-eighth Tom Burke.
His leadership, coupled with a handful of players that have had a chance at first grade this season, will be a major factor in the game.
Coaches Jono and Brendan George were quick to point out the talent in the team.
“Our forwards, Mitch Harvey and Jarrod Cooper, both played first grade last week,” assistant coach Brendan said of the star talent the young Dragons boast.
“Our side has improved as the season has gone on, and we have the momentum building into the finals. Ryan O’Connor is one of the most improved forward, Harry Beasley brings a strong defensive game and Lochie Hills’ kicking game will be key on the weekend.”
A few of the younger players will have roles to play in the side on the weekend as well, including Angus Buckley and Jake Hellagus, who the coaches pinpointed as rising stars that “had solid seasons”.
Last time the 18s Dragons faced the Bears at Glen Willow, Jarrod Cooper bagged a double in the 18-10 victory in Round 16.
It will be more of the same in the wishes of the Mudgee outfit come Saturday, and the battle with the Bears is sure to be an interesting part of the finals footy on the day.
Finals action kicks off at Glen Willow from 11am on Saturday, August 19.
