The side now await the result of this weekend’s major semi-final between Gilgandra and Coonamble.
Playing in to a strong wind in the first half, but with the bulk of the possession, the Terriers opened the scoring in the sixth minute after sustained pressure on the Baradine defence the ball was moved wide and second rower Brent Warwicker went over, and with a successful conversion by Brad James.
Midway through the first half they enjoyed a 16 to nil lead after tries to lock Steven Hardy and half James Morrison but then the Magpies began to get some useful possession and six minutes out from half time their fullback Bryce Daniels was able to pounce on a well weighted grubber kick.
He converted his own try to take the score to 16 to 6 at the break.
The Terriers opened the scoring in the second half when Steve Haney crashed over just two minutes after the resumption of play.
The two sides then traded tries for the remainder of the game, with Baradine’s Travis Houghton scoring and then Gulgong’s front rower Ash Sharpe going over, before Baradine second rower Anthony Harris scored to bring the Magpies back into the game just 12 points adrift.
Gulgong’s Blake Gorrie then made it 32 to 16 when he barged over in the corner but it was game back on with six to go when the Maggie’s hooker Kyle Head burrowed through to bring them back to within 12.
Baradine threw the ball around and made good inroads into the Gulgong defence, but on a number of occasions the final pass went astray and in fact it was to be the Terriers who completed the scoring for the afternoon when Brad James scored a converted try after the hooter had sounded to make the final score 38 to 20.
The Baradine club did not go home entirely empty handed after their Youth League team beat the Gilgandra Panthers 34 to 26.
The Coonamble Bearettes bowed out of the league tag competition, losing to the Gilgandra Pink Panthers 18 to 12 earlier in the day.
