The students took a 28-0 lead into the sheds.
That lead further increased from the opening passage of play in the second half with two more tries to make it 42-0.
Mudgee finally found some joy when number 8 David Jessiman drove his way over with around an hour of play gone, but CSU’s reply was quick in coming.
Once again the students found joy when spreading the ball wide down the left wing.
Jessiman joined the list of multiple scorers when he crossed again for Mudgee, but the final 15 minutes belonged to the home side.
Earlier in the day the Wombats seconds forfeited their match.
Despite a disappointing last match, going down 46 – 5 to CSU, the Wombats colts will play semi-final football after finishing the season in fourth position.
With just 12 players, which dropped as low as 11 for part of the match against the full complement of CSU, the young Wombats were up against it.
However the boys that made the trip to Bathurst gave it their all and managed to play some good rugby at times.
In the juniors, Mudgee have made the finals in all age groups, with the 17s, 15s, and 13s Blue all finishing third in their comps.
The 17s defeated Dubbo Blue 56 to 0, the 15s defeated Dubbo Blue 28 to 0 while the 13s Blue went down in a close match 29 to 22.
The 13s Red finished a creditable 10th out of 12 teams.
