Portlock moved to Tasmania from Gulgong in 2015, and joined the Central Coast Weightlifting Club to continue his burgeoning career.
The event was held on the Gold Coast over seven days, starting from September 2 and concluding on September 9.
Portlock achieved four of the six lifts in his event, with the best snatch of 86kg, and he just missed the 90kg as he lost it behind.
After missing his first jerk at 110kg, he successfully came back with 111kg and managed to finish with a personal best of 117kg.
The efforts from Portlock saw him achieve a gold medal in the 94kg Oceania Youth Division, an impressive result of the young sportsman.
With these results Will achieved a gold medal in the 94kg Oceania Youth Division.
The Portlock family also has another rising star in their midst – Charlie Portlock, Will’s brother.
Will is also a competitive member of the Central Coast Weightlifting Club, and qualified for the youth national in Brisbane earlier in the year, but was unable to attend.
