Cody Lawson had the visitors rattled early, removing Angus Morton caught and bowled for a duck with just one run on the board.
He also collected the scalp of fellow opener Ben Wheeler (4) and Nick Karydis – also for a duck – on his way to 3/27 from six overs.
Combined with Adam Callaghan’s (1/22) bowling of first-drop Tom Barber for 13, Dubbo 2 were reeling.
Number-five Ben Knaggs was their best with 24, one of only three batsmen (Barber and Campbel Rose 16) to hit double figures on the way to the total of 81.
Mudgee captain Andrew Best cleaned up the tail taking 4/14 from his five overs.
While Lance Hearn took 2/15 from five overs in his spell.
Openers Donald Hearn (36) and Michael Dowell (26) then set about the chase and had the home side well on their way at 53 when Dowell was run out.
So even without big additions from Tom Lawson (1), Best (8), Mark Bennie (0), Hayden Cox (2 n.o) and Mitchell Sandry (0 n.o), they were still comfortably home inside of 26 overs.
Dubbo’s Dale O’Donnell tried hard, taking 2/16 and three maidens from his eight overs, but to no avail.
Meanwhile in Wellington, the Gulgong side were just run down by the home side by two wickets in the 48th over.
Gulgong won the toss and elected to bat.
After a slightly shaky start skipper Jared Clulow helped steady the ship with his knock of 41.
Along with Steve Haney’s 15 and David Lane’s 31 – the second best contribution despite batting down the order – took the visitors to a total of 148, all out after 28.3 overs.
With the ball in hand Haney bowled four maidens, taking 2/14 from his seven over spell.
Mick Jarvis took 2/29, with two maidens from his full allocation of 10 overs. And Greg Parish bowled out nine overs, one maiden for 2/33.
In the other Western Zone Plate Round 1 match Bathurst Colts picked up a seven wicket win over Lithgow in Bathurst.
Nyngan will host Cobar this Sunday.
