Makirum, Tayzin and Shardyn Fahey-Leigh have returned to Mudgee, after a busy touring schedule since appearing on the reality TV show in 2014, opening the Brothers3 Music Academy on Mortimer Street.
The musical brothers explained it’s a learning environment for all ages.
‘It’s not necessarily – ‘you have to learn this way’ – we basically teach how you want to be taught,” Makirum said.
“Because Mudgee has supported us so much, especially when we were on TV and through our whole career, this is our way of saying ‘thank you’ by being able to teach people what they’ve given us.
“Without the support of our fans and just people in general – we wouldn’t be able to do what we love, so this is our way of giving back,” he continued.
The brothers joked, “you get to choose your favourite brother.”
The band’s aim is to teach young Mudgee students a number of instruments and skills, including guitar, piano, ukulele, violin, clarinet and brass.
The brothers explained they had to travel to Sydney to receive music lessons when they were growing up.
“We thought it sucked that we couldn’t come to our own hometown and get any instrument.”
The boys are quick to assure the community that they are qualified – not just reality TV stars.
“It’s not like we’re three country bumpkins, we have qualifications,” Makirum said.
Shardyn has a Bachelor of Music, Makirum is just about to complete his Bachelor of Music and Tayzin has a Diploma of Sound.

They’ve also launched the Little Musos program for children aged between two and five – which includes Jess Downey who has early learning qualifications.
The program will include school visits that are aimed at music appreciation.
“We’ll play music to the children and show them how to play the basic instruments with the four fundamentals – tempo, rhythm, beat, and pitch,” the brothers explained.
New Music?
Brothers3 are signed to Warner Music and are currently recording demos and writing.
They were a little cagey about giving away too much information, but Makirum said music is in the pipe-line.
“There is new music coming, let’s say coming soon, but it might not be as soon as soon,” he kind of explained.
“We’re also looking at doing a tour,” Shardyn said.
And Mudgee is the “start point” Tayzin continued.
