Work commenced this week on site with Telstra area general manager Mike Marom explaining the tower is due to go online before the end of the year.
“The new base station will provide coverage uplift to Goolma and the surrounding areas,” he said.
The mobile service black spot stretches for approximately 50 kilometers from Two Mile Flat to Wellington on the Goolma Road and nearly 90 kilometers to Dubbo on Gollan Road.
In June 2015, the federal government announced $6.40 million for new or upgraded mobile base stations in the region, including Goolma.

It was previously understood that the Goolma tower was earmarked for fast tracking after a fatal crash in June 2016.
A 55-year-old Quakers Hill man died when his Triumph motorcycle collided with a Toyota Yaris about ten kilometres west of Gulgong. Those at the scene were unable to call for emergency services, with the area out of range of SOS only calls.
Telstra is building a total of 577 new mobile base stations across rural and regional Australia under the Mobile Black Spot Program.
