Around 200 business leaders attended the function organised by Double R Equipment Repairs, in conjunction with the Mudgee Chamber of Commerce.
Mr O’Toole, founder of the Beechworth Bakery in Victoria, explained to the crowd how he built the retail bakery business, “from $100,000 turnover, to in excess of $17 million cash over the counter.”
“We sell lamingtons and meat pies with average sales around $8 or $9 in regional Australia – these figures are unheard of, they reckon I’m selling drugs to be turning over these sorts of figures,” Mr O’Toole said.
He explained one of the key factors to success is customer service. “That’s what I’m in business for, to service the customer, I’m a servant and I love it,” he exclaimed.
“We’re in the business to service the customer, but we forget, we get so caught up in spreadsheets and drama, and all the customer wants is ‘look at me’.
Double R managing director Rusty Russell organised the function, held in the Sydney Road workshop, as a team event for his staff but decided to open it up to the public. “We’re thrilled to have everyone along,” he said.
Mudgee Junior Rugby League held a fundraising BBQ at the event to raise money for an upcoming New Zealand tour, with Double R topping up the takings to reach $500.
