The Australian Bureau of Statistics estimates about 12.3 million forms, or 77 per cent, had been returned by Friday, October 27. It is estimated the ABS received 400,000 surveys in the past week.
The estimate on the number of returned forms is based on what has so far been scanned by the ABS.
Forms must be received by November 7 to be included in the count.
“If you’re still holding on to your completed form, you must get it in the mail immediately if it is to make the survey deadline,” the ABS said in a statement.
“The Reply Paid envelope provided will be sent by priority post.”
The Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey currently has a higher level of participation than the recent presidential election in the United States and Brexit.
The final survey results will be released on the ABS website on November 15.
