There has been a ‘lack of interest’ in a Community Safety Committee, according to a Mid-Western Regional Council report.

Councillor Alex Karavas requested the reinstatement of the Committee to develop a plan for the instillation of CCTV cameras in the Byron Place carpark.

Three members of NSW Police put forward their interest and only one resident.
‘While three members of the NSW Police have put forward their interest in being members of the Committee, there has only been one expression of interest from a general member of the community. Council needs to determine whether this will provide a reasonable level with consultation with the community,’ the report stated.
Councillors will vote on whether to proceed with the Committee at the general meeting on Wednesday, November 15.
The report looks at the ‘associated risks’ if Council does not reinstate the Committee, ‘If there is no Committee, Council may be limiting opportunities to attract funding for community safety initiatives as they may not be able to demonstrate consultation with the community.’
