The helmets will come with a StemGuard clip-on attachment designed to add extra protection to a batsman’s neck area without sacrificing mobility and freedom of movement.
The attachment is made of a thermoplastic polyurethane honeycomb cushion, paired with a crush foam which maximises impact absorption, giving players more confidence when batting.
Kumar Sangakkara was the first professional cricketer to wear the StemGuard attachment and now players across the state will have the chance to sport the safety accessory with 1500 set to be distributed to junior clubs throughout NSW.
Kerry Gordon, Licensee of Mudgee McDonald’s, places a strong emphasis on player safety and hopes the initiative will encourage more juniors to take up the sport.
“Ensuring the safety of our local teams is of the utmost importance,” Gordon said.
“We’re proud to be providing local clubs with more helmets, encouraging more young Aussies to lead an active lifestyle through sport.”
CEO of Cricket NSW, Andrew Jones, thinks it’s vital that juniors across the state have access to the best protective equipment.
“New helmet standards are being introduced nationwide in 2018,” Jones said.
“This initiative is a collaborative effort to ensure that junior clubs play with the latest and safest helmets.”
