More than 20 officers at the police station have registered for Movember – an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide.
Mudgee LAC Chief Inspector Jeff Boon said they are having a ‘mo-off’.
“So far we’ve raised a little bit over $2000, if anybody would like to donate we’re called The Reluctant Few,” he said.
“We’d love some donations, it’s really important, men’s health in particular depression takes a really terrible toll especially in regional and country areas.
Inspector Boon said the ‘mo’ is a conversational starter. “Certainly wherever you go, looking like somebody from the 1970’s, it certainly does start a conversation,” he laughed. And his number one tip for growing a moustache, “try and start a little bit earlier than the first of November – there have been some accusations.”
