Clayton was grouped with world number 907 Rory Bourke and two other juniors, Joel Tyson and Ti Fox as the team worked their way around the 18-hole course at Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club.
The group played ‘Texas Scramble’ which is best suited to three and four-man teams, giving all players a chance to tee off before choosing one of the landing spots to start from.
Not only were the three youngsters treated to the experience of a lifetime, they each received a 50-dollar voucher for the Twin Creeks Pro Shop and Clayton has already cashed his cheque.
“I wasn’t sure when I’d be going back so I bought a hat and ball marker on the day.” Clayton said.
Although Clayton didn’t know a great deal about Rory Bourke before the tournament, he learned plenty from him throughout it as he helped Tim with his mechanics.
“He helped me with my swing,” he said.
“I wasn’t swinging right until he showed me how he thought I should do it and that helped a lot.”
Rory Bourke has been on the tour since 2011 and has ranked as high as 661st throughout his seven-year career.
Bourke took time off throughout his tour days to caddie for the likes of Tiger Woods, Ian Poulter and Graeme McDowell.
Mudgee Pro Shop’s Peter Mayson has overseen Tim’s progression over the years and expects him to continue to succeed in the future.
For the next couple of years you’ll see is Clayton and a few other juniors winning just about everything
- Peter Mayson
“He’s a very mature kid for his age,” Mayson said.
“The tournament might have been a bit daunting for him but we knew he would hold himself like he always does.
“Once his body catches up to him he’ll improve greatly.”
Mayson spoke about the crop of juniors the Mudgee Golf Club has and what we can expect from them in years to come.
“For the next couple of years all you’ll see is Tim Clayton and a few of the other juniors winning just about everything.”
It’s back to business for Tim as he’ll resume his training, working towards the weekly men’s competition.
