Brace for a hot week with Mudgee forecast to hit the mid-30s on Wednesday and remain there until Sunday, peaking at 37°C on Thursday.

Gulgong is predicted to be milder, also peaking on Thursday but only getting to 33°C and remaining in the low-30s for the week. While the Nullo Mountain weather station in the Rylstone/Kandos area is tipped to reach 31°C on the big day.
According to Weatherzone.com.au a “very hot air mass” approaching from the northwest will blanket the southeast of the country in hot temperatures.
The mercury began its ascent on Monday in a number of inland areas of the southeast, however the hotter temperatures will arrive on Tuesday, with the peak of the heat on Wednesday and Thursday.
While Mudgee is expected to top out at 37°C, that’s forecast to be one of the milder days this week in Dubbo – which could get to 39°C and 38°C on Thursday and Friday, making it the hottest place in the central west.
In South Australia, towns in the north will climb over 40 on Tuesday with Adelaide expected to hit that mark on Wednesday. In Victoria parts of the Mallee and Wimmera are also expected to surpass 40.
A cold front will follow and force the hot airmass northeast, however will only bring slight cooling to many inland places, with Friday, Saturday and Sunday remaining very hot away from the coast.
The weekend in Mudgee is still forecast to hit 35°C and 33°C on the two days. With the overnight temperatures from Thursday to Saturday not set to drop below 20°C.
The hottest December day recorded at the Mudgee Airport weather station was 39.3°C on the 22nd in 1994. Although the 31st in 2005 came close with 39°C. December 2016 peaked at 36.6°C on the 30th.
