Andrew Best finished on top with a two under par 70 to continue the stranglehold of Mudgee golfers at the major event.
It is the third time in three years that a Mudgee golfer has enjoyed success with Mark Hale winning the previous two opens.
Best’s score was sensational as the course was set up to test the best of golfers.
He went out over the first nine holes with a score of 38 and then stormed home with a four under par 32 on the back nine.
Best edged out Lithgow’s Andrew Burton by one shot, meaning the Lithgow golfer missed out on an open hat-trick having won the Oberon and Portland Opens in previous weeks.
“Burton is a quality golfer but I still backed myself to take it out,” Best said.
“I thought I’d play well but not that well.
Burton is a quality golfer but I still backed myself to take it out.

“I’m stoke with the result.”
Best has made a name for himself on the cricket pitch too as the CSU Bathurst graduate is turning into a strong sportsman.
Open sponsor Westfund was represented by board member Howie Fisher who was on hand to present trophies to all the winners.
Golf Club president Geoff Brooks thanked him and Westfund for their continued support.
