Daniel Yule Goodall, aged 33, of Market Street, Mudgee, was charged with assault and two counts of damage property.
At 3.55pm on Thursday, June 8, 2017, a witness leaning into their vehicle in Court Street heard a loud bang and looked up to see Goodall running from a vehicle parked across the road.
They noticed a dent in the bonnet which wasn’t previously there.
About five minutes later in Gladstone Street a man – who Goodall knew – said “hello Dan” to him as he walked past.
Goodall yelled back “who you saying hello to you gronk?” Before throwing a punch at him through the passenger window of the vehicle he was sitting in.
Goodall attempted to force the window open as the victim closed it, then kicked the door a number of times as the car drove off.
His solicitor, Tom Flynn, told the court that his client had been agitated while he was required at the police station then stormed off.
And that the assault was because he misinterpreted the victim’s greeting.
Magistrate Bruce Williams told the defendant, “you’ve got a history of violence in the community, it can’t go on”.
And added that he believes Goodall’s claims to be seeking help with his anger is a positive step.
