The community of St Matthew’s Catholic School is celebrating the successes of its second Year 12 cohort, following the release of the Higher School Certificate results last Thursday.

The group achieved five Band 6 results (greater than 90) from two of the 22 full time students, over four per cent of results were 90 or above.
The stand out performer was Isabella Harris, who achieved 90 or above in English Advanced, Modern History, Visual Arts and Studies of Religion 1.
She also received an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 93.2.
While Emma McCarthy-North achieved an outstanding 97 in Music 1, and was shortlisted for the Encore Music showcase, the performances of the outstanding Music pieces from throughout NSW.
Of all results, 25 percent of all examinations the students attempted achieved at a Band 5 or higher (80 or above), while 60 percent of all results achieved were a Band 4, 5 or 6 (70 or above).
Of the 22 students that leave St Matthew’s at the conclusion of 2017, 20 have already received early entry offers to university, have obtained apprenticeships or permanent employment.
Upon receiving the results, their principal, Jason Hanrahan, acknowledged the work of the staff and students as the school wraps up a second year of the HSC.
“These results continue to highlight the outstanding work of our teachers and support staff in supporting, challenging and encouraging our students throughout their years of education at St Matthew’s,” he said.
“Now, after our second year of the HSC, it is clear that our school can be seen as a viable and high quality education where students can achieve outstanding results, and can be provided the opportunity to succeed in whatever field they choose to do once they leave school.
“We are proud of all of our students, and are proud of the tireless work of the staff in ensuring our students have the wonderful opportunities that are afforded to them.”
St Matthew’s expanded to Stage 6 in 2015 and their first students sat the HSC last year.
Now, after our second year of the HSC, it is clear that our school can be seen as a viable and high quality education where students can achieve outstanding results.
