The former Rabbitohs, Panthers and Titans backrower was linked with the defending Group 10 champions by a Sydney-based publication but Sullivan says Grevsmuhl, who lives in Queensland, won’t be playing for CYMS next winter.
“He’s not coming,” Sullivan said.
“He’s back in Brisbane. I’d love to have a player of his calibre but at this point it won’t be Chris.”
CYMS look set to begin season 2018 in mid-January, with the whole club commencing pre-season training as the one unit.
Sullivan said the holistic approach to next season was to ensure all players are on the same page.
That mantra will be helped by the fact Sullivan, a five-time premiership winning premier league coach with CYMS, will also mentor the club’s under 18s next winter.
The green and golds’ under 18s won the 2017 premiership and with the club’s under 16s also making the grand final, the next generation of CYMS players looks extremely promising.
Dom Maley and Mark Jasprizza will look after the club’s first division and league tag sides respectively.
“It’s outstanding. We’ve got a really good coaching crew this season,” Sullivan said.
“We’ll look to use that (under 18s) depth this year and bring them through, we’re going local and coaching under 18s is the best way to keep an eye on them.”
Sullivan already used some of that depth in 2017, with Tyrone Harrison impressing in his first foray into premier league.
“I’ve always said first grade is king and if you’re good enough age isn’t a worry,” Sullivan said.
“Sometimes coaches don’t like it when under 18s are brought up, but I won’t have that drama with myself. I’ll take who I need.
“I think it’s a role that should fit for the whole club. It’ll bolster reggies too. There will be competition for positions.”
Sullivan added the club would almost certainly play the 2018 season without last year’s Group 10 player of the year, Chris Bamford.
The experience mentor said at this point in time the club would look local to fill the void, with Cam Jones and Jo Duffy two stand-outs in the pack for CYMS last year.
But any new additions, if any, will likely come late in the pre-season.
“I’d still like a big bull especially with Oberon’s side this year – they’ll be next level. But we’ve got faith with what we’ve got,” Sullivan added.
Sullivan also confirmed the club won’t be at this year’s West Wyalong knockout.
