Things were travelling reasonably for the Bulls as Paragon was 5/84 after Yeo (8) was dismissed by Rooke (1/27) but it was heavy battling from there as Gardner (54) stepped to the crease for a massive knock.
G Cookson’s 33 not out dig put the finishing touches on what wound up being a huge innings for the Hawks as they pummeled Oriental’s bowlers for most of the match.
4/40 wasn’t the start the Bulls had in mind but that’s exactly where they found themselves after lunch.
Andy Rooke (26) steadied the ship before being run out, paving the way for a big knock from Andrew Whale (51 not out).
Those contributions were few and far between for Oriental as only three batsmen eclipsed the 20 mark, which could be attributed to strong bowling from the likes of B Gardener (2/14) and T Crouch (2/12) who both bowled five strong overs.
McGrath and Singer lead Woolpack to win
A pair of brilliant bowling performances took centre stage on Saturday as D McGrath (3/23) and S Singer (3/0) were untouchable for Woolpack.
With those performances in mind. it’s no surprise the Pack prevailed by 8 runs after putting up 177 in the first innings.
After opening with the bat, S Lumbsen (53) and B Stewart (50 not out) each produced half centuries for Woolpack, putting their team in great stead before lunch.
It was the Singer show in the second innings as he bowled five maiden overs and allowed 0 runs in an early candidate for best bowing performance of the year.
He dismissed Home Decor’s first three batsmen, before J Carev (2/31) took the next two wickets.
M Drewe (40) did his best to lead a late surge but when D McGrath (3/23) sent him packing, Decor was all out for 169.
McGrath should be commended for 33 overs of bowling. Surely an ice bath was on the cards afterwards!
