The children at the small school love the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program. They learn cooking and gardening skills and develop an understanding how nutritious foods form part of a healthy lifestyle.
“We are all busy and time poor and there is certainly a place for quick meals that feed the family but are healthy and nutritious too,” Principal Caron McDonald said.
“Today students made linguine pasta from scratch and combined it with a basil pesto. Eggs, basil and garlic were all home grown in the school veggie garden and chooks and the dish got a huge thumbs up from all the students and staff.
“Literacy skills are developed through researching and reading recipes whilst Numeracy strategies are applied to calculate quantities and weigh ingredients. Skills for life and so much fun too.”
