Kate Lynch, who’s had a number of people close to her affected by cancer, drew inspiration from Margaret’s six-year commitment and decided she’d be the next to chip in for a great cause.
“She’s a wonderful and compassionate person,” Kate said.
“I remember seeing Margaret last year and I told her I wish I did it with her.
“It was too late at the time but I told her I’d do it next year and we’re here now.”
Margaret works in aged care and was unknowingly looking after one of Kate’s close friends before she died.
“I didn’t know that she was working with her until she passed away,” she said.
“I was very grateful that Margaret had been a part of her world and was helping her out when she needed it.”
This all started when Margaret’s late husband lost a battle with cancer and now she is on a mission to not only show fighting spirit like he did, but to fund research programs for cancer.
“I started doing it in memory of my husband,” Margaret said.
“He was my soulmate, my best friend and the only person I ever wanted to live for.”
While it’s an emotional time for Margaret, apparently the number one is a good look for her.
“I’ve been told I look better bald,” she laughed.
“My hair’s starting to drive me bananas.”
Some people would tremble at the idea of losing their hair but the reality is, a lot of cancer patients don’t have a choice – that’s Kate’s mindset anyway.
“Some women who don’t have a choice about it are devastated to lose their hair,” she said.
“The hairdressers are going to get their clippers out and shave our heads but the actual sufferers are losing their hair from the chemicals and toxins that are pumped into their bodies.
“We’ve got it pretty easy if you think of it that way.”
Cheveux Studio is the place to be on Saturday as Kate goes under the clippers at 9, followed by Margaret at 9.15.
