Nine young adults, from the region’s four high schools and eight community volunteer coaches recently kicked off the program with introduction workshops to commence their 22-week journey towards their goal.
Max Potential program manager, Fiona Brown, said that the participants will get out of Max Potential what they put in.
“They’re regular young adults who know that if they just invest in themselves a little more they can really make a big positive difference to their lives now, which will have an enormous impact on their future,” she said.
“They will chose a goal out of the seven different areas of our life that we focus on. So they may be goals around their; education; relationships with their families and friends; fitness; or finance.
“But it’s very much driven by the young adults, because this is their goals and their personal leadership development. And the coaches are there to support them along the way.”
Their leadership and development journey will also include giving back to the community via a community service project, set to commence at the end of May.
Fiona said that this year they’ve once again got a good cross-section of coaches from the community – two of which are returning from previous years. They too set their own goals for the program.
“We’ve got them from Council, mines, real estate, and business owners. They want to make a difference to a young adult and they know they’ll be developing coaching skills that they can apply in their own life and own work place,” she said.
And added that local businesses – Wilpinjong, Moolarben, Glencore, Peter Druitt and Co, Club Mudgee, and ClubsNSW – continue their support due to the value they see in investing in the program. Club Mudgee is the major program partner and venue for group sessions.
The final session of the program, the showcase, is on Friday, August 3, at Club Mudgee.
