What is your name and what are you doing at the moment?
Vicki Cowan Patterson, Barista and server at Café 89.
What is a story that has impacted you as a person and who you are now?
I have only been in this job for 6 weeks, I’m originally American, I have been in Mudgee for 20 years and my husband and I have enjoyed raising our three kids in Mudgee. I have been an aged care worker for five years, but I have recently left the industry.
If you could make a quote of what your experience in life is like, what would it be?
I have always loved the line out of Archie Roaches song: “Careful when you walk through this land, because a child was born here.”
What do you think about Mudgee’s culture?
It’s always very friendly, very welcoming and we always rally around each other to support each other in need. It’s a really close, tight knit community.
Do you have any words of wisdom for the next generation?
Don’t stress too much about the HSC, your whole life is not based off a test. Don’t forget to look after yourself first, because you can’t take care of other people if you can’t look after yourself.
Do you have a social media account?
Yes, I do have social media.
What are your thoughts on social media and its impact on society?
I think that if it is used for good, if kept in context everybody just puts out their best face forward, but not everybody wants to put it out there that they are having a hard time, we think that “oh they are all so beautiful” that you should just remember that they are just putting on an illusion.
