Mr Broun, who flew in from Dubai, where he runs Short and Sweet Dubai, has had over 100 short plays produced in over 1500 productions around the world.
“I was greatly impressed by the ideas and creativity of writers and directors over the weekend,” Mr Broun said.
“There is tremendous theatrical talent in the Central West, and the Showcase is a wonderful way of bringing the best of that home-grown talent together.”
Workshop participants were also lucky enough to have the expertise of Becky Russell for the day.
Ms Russell is a theatre designer, director, manager and technician who has worked for more than 15 years across Australia to develop and produce new works.
She began her career in the Melbourne independent theatre scene and has since worked on many productions and festivals in the roles of designer, director and production manager across Australia. Becky is the creator and the Artistic Director of the Central West Short Play Festival.
The Showcase (funded by the Regional Arts Fund and BMEC’s Local Stages program) will be touring the Central West throughout July, to partner venues Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre and Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre.
Snap Shorts will be rolling into Mudgee on July 18 and 19. It is the first program of it’s kind in the region and is already looking to be a great success. Contact Local Stages on (02) 6333 6161 for more information.
Writers and directors from Mudgee included in the weekend were Josh Hayward, Jill Baggett, Deb Cooke, Helen McLennan and Sam Paine. Heather Rushton is currently overseas but will also be directing a play for SnapShorts.
