Mr Grant toured the finished areas of the centre jointly funded by government grants and community donations.
“I first leant of this initiative at Mudgee Showground Chain of Coins campaign,” Mr Grant said.
“I am just blown away by the amount of community contribution. The respite Lifeskills provides is amazing and a vital part of the community.”
There are still areas of the facility that are yet to be finished and Lifeskills is attempting to secure further government funding.
“As anticipated last year, the Respite Centre is already intensively used and the community kitchen and multi-purpose room are also used and the community kitchen and multi-purpose room are also used not only by Lifeskills Plus clients and staff but by local organisations for their activities,” Lifeskills CEO Carolyn Peek said.
“Lifeskills Plus’ board of directors and staff have envisaged the community centre as a public resource, not just an organisation’s premises. The new infrastructure will create additional jobs in our area whilst enhancing the lives and opportunities for people with disabilities and their families.”
Lifeskills have pitched a funding request to the NSW Government for Stage two of their community centre.
