The biggest winner was without a doubt the club as a whole after a record number of entrants which included many non-members and also plenty of youngsters keen to give the sport a go.
There were no surprises in the men’s event with Matt Webster finishing in first as he prepares for the T3X endurance race in Canberra next week.
“I’m getting ready for next week, myself and a few others from the club are heading down to Canberra to do a big race down there,” he said.
“It was a really good hit out for me to make sure all my gear is all good.
“Transition as well, so getting the swim to bike and bike to swim change over sorted and confidence from that.
“I was feeling strong throughout, it was a beautiful day for racing.
“Mal Pitt had good pace on the bike but I ended up winning by a lap, It was a really good race for second though.
“A short high intensity race a week out is really good preparation for next week.
“There I’ll be doing a 2km swim 60km ride and 15km run and four others in the club doing double that distance, so looking forward to it.
“They’re gorgeous, They try really hard and they’re so cute.”
“It was great to see all the kids out racing.
“ I’ve been doing some coaching with them as well and they all seem to be really enjoying it.”
In the women’s race, the result was a bit more surprising, with Bec George taking line honours ahead of Rachel Kearins.
Bec George was happy to get the win but conceded it may have been a different story if not for her competitor’s equipment failure.
“I had a good swim and was third out of the pool,” she said.
“Rach Kearins was ahead of me and I was trying to catch her on the bike but she was too strong and getting further and further ahead.
“I was overtaken by a few on the bike and came off in fourth and managed to overtake them all on the run.
“Running is my strongest, swimming the middle and then the bike is my slowest.
“Rachel was 200 or 300 metres in front of me off the bike and I had three laps to catch her.”
Bec George said that the numbers of competitors was huge, especially in the junior race, which bodes well for the club in the future.
“If you’re not a member, you have to sign a waiver so usually I’ll print off about 20 but we needed about 40,” she said.
“There were lots of members turn up as well.
“It was really good to see lots of little ones give it a go as well, and we hope to see more and more coming.
“They’re gorgeous, They try really hard and they’re so cute.”
This weekend Red Devils members Rowan Rowlands, Julian Geddes, Soolan Clifford, Nick Collins, Stuart Clifford, Ben Kurtz and Matt Webster will all compete in the gruelling T3X Endurance Triathlon in Canberra.
