Coxie, as he was affectionately known to everyone, passed away last Tuesday when he was struck by lightning when he was trying to protect his livestock from several grassfires.
The 22-year-old was a regular at Mudgee touch playing for Paragon Hotel in the men’s competition and Courthouse Cannibals in the mixed competition.
On Thursday night, 48 hours after the tragic accident, the Mudgee touch community came together and paid tribute to their fellow member.
Players, officials and spectators held a minute’s silence for Cameron during the mixed competition’s double-header.
It was a busy night with most teams playing two matches in 30-plus temperatures.
The double-header was played to catch up on rounds that were unable to be contested.
With only three rounds left in the mixed competition, the pressure is on for teams to make the final matches count so they can secure finals spots.
Tuesday night’s competitions are also winding down.
There are plenty of teams in with a fighting shot across the men and women’s divisions.
One of which is Country Physio Little Ladies in the women’s competition.
Last season’s division two premiers are on track to qualify for the division one finals this summer and they could prove difficult to handle.
The young ladies held on for 7-all draw with competition powerhouse McDonald Lawson.
The draw means McDonald Lawson surrendered top spot to Mackander Shearing.
Tuesday night’s competitions are the only matches to be played this week.
There is no junior and mixed touch on Thursday due to the Junior State Cup at Port Macquarie.
