The final race in the series, Race 5, is set to be held Sunday, March 12 in Cowra, with everything up for grabs between the top two teams.
Mudgee is confident heading into the weekend after a solid performance in the local competition that offered many a final hit-out before the Cowara fixture.
The junior competitors posted results at the back end of the season, with Sian Potter taking second place in the long course last Sunday.
Potter, who swam the second fastest time of both the men’s and women’s categories, improved her overall time by an staggering two minutes from the local Race 5 in February.
Junior squad coach, Brendan Sutton, said Potter was a ‘standout’ at Sunday’s race with a huge personal best run split of 14:31 for the three kilometre final leg.
Equal second place went to Nicolette Karskens with Anna Power in third spot.
In-form Louise Mowlem set the fastest’s women’s time for the season with 51:59.
Some tough training sessions have been a priority for Mowlem in the past weeks and it’s paid off - Mowlem was second in the mixed field of the bike leg ahead of all but one of the male competitors.
Another impressive junior for the club, Campbell Wall, claimed third place in the men’s long course behind Matt Webster, with the veteran athlete placing first with 46:07.
Greg Atkinson managed to take second ahead of the youngster, but couldn’t beat Webster with a time of 51:33.
In the same vein of competitive youngsters, hot prospect Beau Rohr is continuing to impress in the local fields, as the ten year old took down the short course again.
A week after the battle at Cowra in the Inter-Club series, Orange will host the 2017 NSW Club Championships.
The annual Club Championships is one of the most keenly anticipated events of the Triathlon calendar with well over 2000 participants from over 50 clubs in NSW taking part in the day, and Mudgee’s athletes will be eager to make an impact at the state-wide event.
